Fiesta de Papel – San Miguel de Allende Fine Art Print – Limited Edition – Mexico – Kodak Portra 400

The papel picado flags strung above the street cast their shadows diagonally across the wall — terracotta, ochre, peeling plaster, ancient stone — turning the entire facade into a surface for the light to work on. The wooden door, iron hardware, the address cut into stone above the frame. Number 29. San Miguel de Allende, 2026.

The shadows are not decoration. They are the photograph. The flags themselves are barely there — just the pattern they leave behind, moving across the wall at the angle the morning sun dictated, for as long as it lasted.

Kodak Portra 400 held the warmth of it. The terracotta deepened. The ochre glowed. The shadows landed with weight. Film does something to Mexican light that digital rarely matches — it finds the temperature of it, the age of it, the way color has been living in these walls for centuries.

San Miguel de Allende has a way of offering moments like this to those who are paying attention. This one was given freely on a quiet morning, to a camera that was ready.
