"Synthetic Leopard Skin Is Becoming an Endangered Species" – Limited Edition Leopard Artwork on Fine Art Paper | Contemporary Wildlife Photography | Mixed Media Collage
There’s so much plastic. In fact, you can explain to a leopard that its spots are rare, and that synthetic leopard skin is becoming an endangered species. But it will just look back at you—knowing you’re made of meat. After a while, it might kill you.
This mixed-media collage features a series of black-and-white photographs captured by the artist in South Africa in 2019. At the center, a powerful pair of leopards rest in tall grass—alert, wary, and utterly unconcerned with human attempts to categorize them. Around them, a grid of smaller images shows moments of stalking, play, and repose.
Hand-illustrated layers of paint and India ink, paired with handwritten text, create an unconventional composition that is at once meditative and irreverent. Rich washes of green, ochre, and indigo accent the monochrome images, blurring the line between documentary and visual essay.
This limited edition print offers a striking reflection on authenticity, survival, and the contradictions of our own consumption. It makes a compelling addition to any fine art collection, contemporary wildlife gallery, or conservation-minded space.

About the Artist
I began incorporating photographs into my work when I founded Costa Rica Natural Paper Co. in 1992, blending my love of photography with a passion for sustainable materials. Over the years, my process evolved into a kind of diaristic manifesto—a collection of visual essays layered with intuition, philosophy, travel, and current events.
The thrill of scavenging for paper scraps and repurposing them into my own canvas grew into an expedition of creativity. Each collage transforms the mundane into something extraordinary, capturing overlooked beauty and the urgency of remembrance.
Processed in my studio in California, each work embodies decades of dedication to craft, conservation, and visual storytelling.
