The Opinion of Sheep – Lion Mixed Media Fine Art Print – Limited Edition – South Africa – Coffee Paper
A pride of lions at rest in the South African bush. Unbothered. Completely, sovereignly unbothered.
Inscribed at the edge of the image: "A lion doesn't concern itself with the opinion of sheep."
This is a hand done mixed media work on handmade coffee paper — a material made from agricultural waste collected on coffee plantations, developed by the artist. The surface carries the texture and warmth of its origin. Across it, deliberate coffee ring stains and brewed coffee marks move through the image — not as decoration but as dialogue. The rings echo the circles of the pride at rest. The stains are the paper speaking in its own language.
The border is hand-drawn in India ink. The photograph beneath is black and white — shot in South Africa, 2019. The coffee-stained paper surrounds it with warmth and age, as if the image has been sitting on a desk somewhere, accumulating the marks of time.
Part document, part dream. The stains and surface patterns are not decoration but dialogue — traces of time, chance, and process that echo the rhythms of the land itself.
The original hand-worked piece is held in the artist's private collection and is not available for sale. This print is a reproduction of the hand-worked original.
