The Weight of White – Elephant Mixed Media Collage – Limited Edition Fine Art Print – African Wildlife

A lone elephant in the South African bush. Head down. Tusks visible.
Around him — arranged like an archive that should not exist — images of what those tusks become. Piles of confiscated ivory. Piano keys. Dice. Religious icons. Status objects carved from the same material that is still attached to a living animal in the center of this frame.
Vivid red and yellow borders mark this as both a crime scene and a site of remembrance.
The Weight of White is a mixed media work on handmade banana paper — a material made from agricultural waste, developed by the artist. Paint and India ink. The border collage assembled from historical photographs documenting the ivory trade. The elephant at the center photographed in South Africa, 2019.
The original hand-worked piece is held in the artist's private collection and is not available for sale. This print is a reproduction of the hand-worked original.
